What verb should Alice use at the end of this passage, adapted from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll:

The Caterpillar was the first to speak.

'What size do you want to be?' it asked.

'Oh, I'm not particular as to size,' Alice hastily replied; 'only one doesn't like [to be so many], you know.... I should like to be a little [fewer and smaller], sir, if you wouldn't mind,' said Alice...

the Caterpillar... crawled away in the grass, merely remarking as it went, '[tar] will make you grow [fewer], and [gzip] will make you grow shorter.'

'[Perhaps I should like to tar-gz, then' thought Alice (for what she heard was 'gz' rather than 'gzip,' the Caterpillar being by then a bit too far away to be heard clearly).]

Did Alice use the right verb?---"I should like to tar-gz."

If not, what is the correct verb?
